Salt Co-Branding / Private Labelling Best Practice:

Pouch Layout

Before start working on your Salt Pouch Design, it’s always important to source the standard pouch layout drawing from Salt Manufacturer & Supplier. There are various standard of pouch layout available for 1 kg and ½ kg pouch.

Packing Style

Machine Packing

It’s always a smart choice to go for Machine Packing when it comes to Salt Packing. For Machine packing the packing material has to be in Roll Format.

Merits of Machine Packing:

  1. Gives rich look and feel for the salt pouch
  2. Multilayer sealing which looks uniform where as in manual packing, sealing looks zigzag and doesn’t give good finish
  3. During transportation the salt pouches is subjected to various load conditions while loading & unloading and passes many hands till it reaches the hands of customers. So it’s very important to look into the reliability of pouch which is assured only with Machine packing.
  4. Machine Packing gives an output of 50 to 60 salt pouches in one minute. By machine packing the productivity is increased.
  5. Accuracy of Weight will be uniform in all packed pouches where as in manual packing its not accurate and time consuming process.

Manual Packing:

Manual Packing doesn’t have any specific standard pouch dimensions or sizes. Manual packing is suggested for Powder Salt as the moisture content in Powder Salt is more and it doesn’t have free flowing properties in nature and hence machine packing for Powder Salt is always a challenge.

Manual packing for Freeflow salt is not advisable since the Freeflow salt when exposed to environmental conditions tends to absorb moisture from the air and when packed will not have free flowing nature.

Pouch Material Selection:

There are three common packing materials available when it comes to Salt Packing

  1. Lamination Packing Material – Lamination packing material is commonly preferred for packing Refined Freeflow Salt since the refined salt has high temperature when it moves for packing. Lamination packing material can withstand the temperature of salt and doesn’t tear easily while sealing or packing.
  2. LDPE (Low Density Polyethylene) – Good for Crystal Salt.
  3. HM HDPE (High molecular High Density Polyethylene) – The product doesn’t give you rich look but better alternative for packing at low cost.

All the above mentioned materials can be availed in Roll format. Once you have decided the packing material, ensure to send sample material with I-Mark (without Printing – i.e Plan Roll) to your Salt Manufacturing Partner to test whether the pouch dimensions and supplied materials are good to pack with the Packing Machines.

Pouch Design:

It’s always a cakewalk if a manufacturer could able to get the pouch inform of Roll format from the Co-Branding Partner. This activity might avoid lot of confusions, conflicts on one side and can save lots of money and time on the other side.

Once the Pouch Design is freezed, share the pouch design proof with your Salt Manufacturing Partner and incase of any design changes required in the Salt pouch it will be communicated at the earlier stage.

Master Bag/Outer Bag:

Master Bag is nothing but the outer bag where the Salt pouches are packed together as 25 kg Bundle which is the standard practice in domestic market.

  • 25 pkts X 1 kg = 25 kg Bundle
  • 50 pkts X ½ kg = 25 Kg Bundle

The Master bag can be of following type

  1. Plastic Gunny Bag (Insert Liner) – Looks Transparent
  2. Ordinary Printed Plastic Gunny Bag with Brand name, Packing information and Company details.
  3. Laminated Outer Bag – This is little expensive but give rich look to your products. Gusset Type laminated outer bag is also available in market.
